Worlds at war

The first one landed in Irkutsk, Russia. It landed right above the fountain in Kirov square.

Saying that it was a cold night in Siberia is like saying that the sun is bright. It’s an integral part of the thing itself. Siberia without cold is a concept without meaning. This particular night was quiet. The cold had made even the hardy Siberian people stay inside. It began with a streak through the sky. Obvious and so very cliche. The white streak stopped just above the fountain and for a while, it simply hovered there. No one can really say when the ball of light began changing but the images were astounding. From eyewitness reports, there were all sorts of strange and unintelligible images. The images would proceed in obvious sequences. Only later, did we begin piecing things together.

There was an image that excited the physicists on the scene. It gave them work for years to come. Now, they say that within the next three years, we would have the near limitless energy of room temperature fusion. Imagine your own small, personal sun. They say that the whole world would have free power. The implications are obvious and would change everything. That’s why it was so important that we would need to control the information. The UN energy committee decided quickly in a closed door session that Irkutsk would need to be evacuated and the fountain would become a closely guarded secret.

The next one was easy. It landed in a deep section of the Amazon jungle. This one wasn’t physics. As best as we can tell, it’s some kind of primer on engineering. Engineering that became so far beyond us that it was insane. There are currently three teams working around the clock to decipher the message. They say that it seems to be a primer written for children. Starting from elementary mathematics, onward. The  senders seemed to count in base twelve. The scientists keep saying that the sender’s technology has advanced in an entirely different direction than ours has. Something about harmonics. The current assumption is that there will be all sorts of new technology gleaned from it. At least, as soon as we can understand it all.

The latest one was the most galling. Either their aim is getting better or dumb luck has struck against us. I’ve heard the claim that they cross-check our heat traces to try to figure out where the most of us are. That just make us wonder why the first was in Siberia. The latest one blew out the secret. It’s all over the news now. It landed in Bedford Park. A little park across from a college in New York City. New Yorkers are exceptionally good at ignoring even the strangest things. Many of them assumed that the images were some sort of art installation. It wasn’t for a while until it was noticed that the pattern corresponded to a set of stars. It was their home system. Not far. It was identified as 55 Cancri e. It was about 40 light years from us. It’s theorized to be a carbon planet. A place where carbon is in high percentage and oxygen is low. A mix that means that the strange and shimmering thing that stands there writhing is probably alive somehow.

Even with all of our equipment attempting to monitor where we thought the signals were coming from, it slipped in completely undetected. It was then that we realized what was going on. We were under attack. We’re at war with an intelligence that whether intended or not, aims to conquer us. Like the spaniards with christianity, they aim to completely change our world. It is with that conclusion that we aim to recreate their projection technology to send messages back. We aim to share our knowledge of weaponry and warfare. The goal is to show them the information that we know, as they have shown us.

We will strike back.

We will win.
